I believe this had unfortunately closed by 2003. There was certainly reference to the pub being open in the CAMRA good beer guide of 1999.

LICENSES EXTENDED.

A wine license was granted to the "Bricklayer's Arms," Chipstead, and a spirit license to the "Star," Brasted Chart.

To support the latter application a petition, signed by 154 people, was submitted. Opposition came from the licensee of the "Fox and Hounds," Toys Hill.

From an email received March 2017.

Sophia Haynes was married to Thomas Hall, then married Richard Smith - they are previously at the "King Henry the Eighth," Hever.

I have a copy of a letter written by Sophia to her brother in Melbourne, Australia:-

Sophia states in the letter dated the 25th September 1875; they were one year out of business. We could see nothing to suit us, so we bought a piece of ground off Frank, my brother on the Chart and built this house, and opened it for the sale of beer. We have not tried for a spirit licence. Been here 9 years now.
