A well-known Kent landlord has sadly died from coronavirus.
Phil Hall, 63, died yesterday morning (May 9) after contacting
COVID-19 and developing pneumonia.
Phil, born in Sheerness, ran a number of pubs and clubs in Medway
over the decades before moving to Baldock a few years ago.
In Gillingham, this included the "Cricketers" on Sturdee Avenue,
the
"Dog and Bone" on Skinner Street, the bar at the old 442 Sports and
Social Club, the old "Brickmakers Arms," as well as the
"Tudor Rose" in Upnor.
Initially, Phil believed he had a chest infection and was admitted
to Lister Hospital in Stevenage on around April 20.

After testing positive for the virus, he continued to struggle to
breathe and was eventually put into an induced coma but tragically
never recovered.
Since his death, Phil's family have been touched by the volume of
messages and tributes from his many friends and former patrons.
Megan Hall, 20, Phil's daughter, said: "It was nice to see that he
was well-loved and well cared for by a lot of people.
"Although it had been a few years since he'd seen a lot of his
friends, they all came together and messaged to make sure that I was
okay.
"It's nice to see just how loved he was by everyone."
Megan continued: "He always cared for me, he'd always say how proud
he was of me.
"Even when, according to the nurses, when he got taken down one of
the units he was telling them all of how proud of me he was.
"He always cared and would always make sure that I was okay. He
never wanted me to be upset, he was absolutely loving."
"He was everybody's friend, everybody liked him," added Amanda,
Megan's mum and Phil's ex-wife.
"He liked a drink, he liked being either side of the bar.
"He was a genuine, nice, kind guy." |
