From the Kent Herald, 12 December 1833
William Weeks was indicted with stealing a pewter measure and other
articles, the property of Michael Collins at Chidinston.
Michael Collins states that he keeps a beer shop at Chiddingstoe, and
also a grocery shop. On the evening of the 27th of November, he had the
articles mentioned in the indictments, and afterwards found them at a
large a short distance off, to which marks of footsteps were traced,
which were proved to be those made by the prisoners shoes.
Guilty - six months' imprisonment and hard labour.

Allowing Gaming And Drunkenness.
Before Major Scoones.
John Anscomb, Chiddingstone, was charged by Supt. Dance with
allowing gaming in a beer-house on the 11th inst. and also with
allowing drunkenness at the same time and place.
P.C. Hobday proved the cases.
The defendant called a niece who deposed that she was serving the
parties in the tap-room with beer but did not see any gambling going
on.
The chairman warned the defendant to be careful in future and being
the first offence fined him 2s. 6d. in each case and 15s. 6d. costs.
