Maidstone Telegraph - Saturday 11 October 1862.

Henry Excell, a beerhouse keeper, of Staplehurst, was summoned for having kept his house open for the sale of beer on Sunday, 14th ult, before the hour of half past 12 o'clock. A witness was called by the defendant, who proved that he called at the house to leave some shoes for some labouring men, and neither had nor saw any beer. The case was dismissed.
