MALLING, WEST. Petty Sessions, Monday.

(Before J. W. Stratford, Esq., in the chair, the Hon, and Rev. Sir F. J. Stapleton, Colonel Fletcher, R. Tassell, Esq., Admiral Randolph, and Captain John Cheere, R.N.)

William Elliott was charged with stealing two candles and a half, the property of William Elliott, beerhouse-keeper, Wrotham, on the 3rd inst. The prosecutor was the prisoner’s uncle. The candles were lying on the mantel of the tap-room.

Three weeks’ hard labour.

 

South Eastern Gazette, 14 August, 1860.

John Hodgkin, of Wrotham, was charged with a similar offence, (charged with having his house open for the sale of beer,) on Sunday, the 1st July, which was proved by 78, K.C.C. The defence was that of the four persons in the house three were lodgers, and the other a traveller. This was contradicted by Sergeant Aspinall, 153, K.C.C., who also said that he had previously seen six persons in the house, in the morning of the same day.

Fined £2 and costs.

Malling West. Petty Sessions.

Alexander Stevens, innkeeper, of Wrotham, was charged with opening his house for the sale of beer, on Sunday, 25th July last. Mr. Norton appeared for the defence.

Several Witnesses were called on each side.

The evidence being most conflicting the case was adjourned to the next petty Sessions.
