Bat and Ball sign

Above sign, date unknown.

The only reference I have found so far for this pub is in the Kent and Sussex Courier of 1828 and 1873. However, a sign has come to light and indicates that it was in Tunbridge Wells, so I am assuming it is this one, although I will say the source I got the sign from hasn't proved to be reliable in the past. It's from a firm advertising on ebay regarding the manufacture of pub signs onto canvas.

From the Kent and Sussex Courier. 15 August 1873. Price 1d.

ACCIDENT

Yesterday a rather serious accident occurred opposite the "Bat and Ball" public-house, where the drainage works are open. A waggon belonging to Mr Coombridge was passing, when one of the horses shied, and after plunging about a great deal fell into the deep trench. The men at work had a very narrow escape, but fortunately they were tunnelling at the time and by this means they were enabled to get out of the way, but one man was slightly grazed on the chest. Pulleys, chains, and planks were speedily brought into requisition and after some delay the horse was extracted and escaped with a few slight cuts.
