In 1783 a troop of the 13th Light Dragoons were sent to Kingsgate, Kent and billeted at the "Fig Tree Inn" to try to stop smuggling.

St. Peter's.

A meeting under the suspices of the Kent Labourers' Union will be held this evening (Saturday) at the factory at the "Fig Tree Inn" to express sympathy with the locked-out labourers. The chair will be occupied by Mr. A. Simmons, and a large attendances is anticipated.
