I am also informed by Jim Packer author of the "Lost Pubs of Bexley" that:- "In 1823 Robert Warner petitioned the magistrates, amongst others, for a licence to open a public house in Erith High Street. His near neighbour, Sarah Kempton of the "Running Horses," amongst others, objected and as a result his application failed. However, with the arrival of the 1830 Beerhouse Act, all Robert had to do was pay his 2 guineas to the Excise and he could trade in beer but not spirits. Warner is listed in the 1832 directory but the 1841 Census describes him as only a 55-year-old labourer, so he had probably ceased trading as a publican."
