Belle Vue Hill

Ramsgate

To date I have only seen the one mention of this Inn, situated in Belle Vue Hill.

I am informed by Graham Petley that after the 1871 census, the address appears to have changed to 6 Plains of Waterloo, which would make it the "Volunteer."

From the Kent and Sussex Courier 27 June, 1873. Price 1d.

RAMSGATE - Discovery of Old Coins.

At some excavations now being made in Cramp's-yard, near the "Malt Shovel Inn," on Belle Vue-hill, for the purpose of erecting a store for the Coal Consumers' Association, a number of ancient coins have been found, at a depth of about eight feet from the surface. Near to the coins was also found a small cannon ball, evidently of great antiquity. They are in the possession of the agent to the company, who will have pleasure in showing them to any persons interested in antiquities.
