One time a Mason's tied house, but the brewery was bought out by Shepherd
Neame in 1956 and the brewery was subsequently closed and demolished.

Mr. Arnold appeared to support an application for a spirit licence to
the above beer house on behalf of Joseph Dewdney but the references
being unsatisfactory, the bench were of opinion that the licence should
not be granted.

TEMPORARY AUTHORITIES AND TRANSFERS.
Application was made by Mr. Elliott, manager
to Messrs. Kelsey, brewers, of Tonbridge Wells, for the transfer of the
"Fountain Inn," Cowden, from Robert King to Jesse Stemp. The license of
the "Royal Oak Inn," Southborough, was transferred from Thomas Chapman
to Thomas Box. The certificate of the "Rose and Crown" beerhouse, Hadlow,
was transferred from the trustee under liquidation by arrangement of the
effects of Henry Seager to Rickard Larkin, and that of the "Prince of
Wales" beerhouse, Hadlow, from Edward Paries to Charles Heath. |

The following report was laid before the Justice's on Tuesday by
Superintendent Kewell:- Kent County Constabulary, Tunbridge division,
27th August, 1878.
Thomas Box, keeper of the "Royal Oak" ale house
at Southborough, was summoned for permitting gaming on his licensed
premises, but the case was dismissed.
