PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1830-

Six Bells

Latest 1862+

(Name to)

High Street

Bexley

Trading around 1830, and described as being the tap room to the Bexley Brewhouse which was situated behind the pub, and part of which was still in existence in the Thanet road car park.

I only have one reference to this pub to date and that has been taken from information from the "Red Cross," Sidcup.

It appears in 1859 Edmund Richard May took over as licensee of the "Red Cross". As well as being licensee, May was also a carman and a dealer in coals and wood. By 1862 he had moved to the "Six Bells, Bexley" and that year became a bankrupt.

I believe the pub changed name by 1869 to become the "Hop Pole," and had expanded to next door and now tied to Kidd's Brewery.

LICENSEE LIST

Last pub licensee had MAY Edmund Richard 1862
