The White Horse at Finglesham, near Deal, was once a great venue for jazz
with the Pete Rose Jazz Band on Friday nights. Unfortunately, shortly after
March 1982, the inn burnt down with only the chimney stack remaining.
Above aerial photo is of the latter-day White Horse at Finglesham,
before the fire that destroyed it circa 1982.

Judge and house hunting.
"People talk about being turned out into the street, but I make
enquiries, and they always seem to find something," said Judge A. F.
Clements at Dover County Court on Wednesday, when he granted possession
to the owner of a Shepherdswell house tenanted an A. A. Inspector, who
claim to have done everything in his power to find other accommodation
without success.
"I don't mean it unkindly," said judge Clements, "but I am inclined to
think that it is only when an order for possession is made that people
do really make very strenuous efforts to find other accommodation."
Mrs. Edith Foster, 58, of the "White Horse Inn," Finglesham, applying
for possession of "Waterdean," Westcourt Lane, Shepherdswell, said her
husband, who was 72, and in no condition to help with the business and
she herself suffered from sciatica and could not manage alone. She had
tried to get help, but people made enough working in the fields in the
summer without working through the winter.
Henry Pope, and A. A. Inspector for the Thanet area, said he had a wife
and two children, and had tenanted the house since 1939, and for the
past two and a half years had done everything he could to find
alternative accommodation. House Agents simply laughed at him.
Granting possession to Mrs. Foster in a month his Honour said that when
the local authorities and the defendants employers were informed that he
would have to leave the house they will find him something.
Mr. F. Matter for defendants: I only hope your Honour is right.
