Reference has been found for this pub being open in 1882.

Not much more details known about this yet apart from to say before it was a wine shop it operated as a wool shop. Whilst open as the Canon it also doubled as a post office.

Amanda Booth says in the 60's and 70's the Post Office, shop and Off Licence was run by the Woodward family, before being taken over by the very lovely Patel family, who were Sikh. There was a phone box on the raised concrete plinth, about where the wooden cupboard is shown in the early photo.
