One of the country's SMALLEST pubs has opened in Margate
Andy Barrett, who runs the Belgium Cafe, has opened a tiny pub in the
Old Kent Market in Margate.
One of the country's smallest pubs – with standing room for just six
people – has opened in Margate. The "Little Prince," located inside the OId Kent Market in Market Place,
was previously a tiny sushi bar measuring just 11ft by 7ft. But Andy Barrett, who already runs the Belgium Café in Ramsgate, has
opened it as a minute watering hole and named it after one of his
favourite stories. "I think it is one of the smallest in the UK," he said. "It's so small because it's a unit but I thought I'd make it into a tiny
pub. There's only room for six people standing. If we put bar stalls in
four people would fit in there." Mr Barrett said the idea came about when one of the individual units in
the market became available. Andy Barrett already runs the Belgium Cafe in Ramsgate. "It was a sushi bar, it was absolutely tiny," he said. "We had a soft opening today (August 5), but we haven't set up a website
or Facebook yet. We're doing an opening really to see how it goes, so we
can see how it will work. "People will be able to buy take away drinks from us as there are
facilities to sit outside or by the beach. "It will be interesting to see how it evolves. There is so much going on
around here now in Margate, I think it will work well." |
