Gravesend & Northfleet Standard, Saturday 31 August 1895.

Higham. Prohibited Hours.

At the Rochester County Police Court, Thomas Dawes, William Thomas Brown and and Charice Streeter, three labouring men, were charged with being on the licensed premises of Robert H. Hewitt during prohibited hours, at Higham, on Sunday, July 28th.

All pleaded guilty.

Police Sergeant Kemp deposed that on the day in question, shortly before noon, he went into the "Malt Shovel," and saw Brown and Streeter coming out of the back room with quarter pots in their hands. On going into the top room he saw Dawes, who was drunk, sitting there.

A fine of 1s., with 9s. costs, was imposed in each case, and a week was allowed for payment.
