POLICE COURT. YESTERDAY.
At the Police Court before Major Wilkie (in the chair), Sir W. M.
Coghlam K.C.B , Gen Williams, Rev. O. W. Sicklemore, J. T. Friend,
Esq., G. E. Hannan, Esq., and Dr. Canham, William Fox was charged
with assaulting Sarah White. The assault complained of arose out of
a brawl on Friday night at a beershop called the “Star,” situate in
King-street. The Bench convicted the defendant and fined him 1s. and
21s. costs, or in default 14 days’ hard labour.

William Fox, a fisherman, was summoned for wilful damage to three
panes of glass and 3 drinking glasses, at
the "Star Inn," King Street.
The complainant, Henry Brown, deposed that defendant came to his
house on Friday night, at 11:45, very
drunk. He fell into the bar, and lay there a few minutes. Some men
endeavoured to assist him up, when he
jumped up and began striking about, committed the damage complained
off.
The two men named John Pilkington and John Roberts corroborated.
Defendant denied committing the damage, and called another fisherman
named Robert Fox who deposed that
there was a fight, and he could not see who broke the glass. The
defendant was worse for liquor than he was,
though he admitted he was bad enough.
Defendant was find £1. 9s. 9d. damages, and 13s. costs.
