PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1841-

Tiger's Head Inn

Latest 1861+

Plaxtol

The only reference I have found so far for this pub is in the Census of 1841 and 1851.

I also have reference to a "Cat and Tiger" in Plaxtol and do not know as yet whether there is any connection to the two.

Maidstone Telegraph, Saturday 10 September 1870.

Malin intelligence. Annual licensing day.

The greater portion of the forenoon was occupied in granting renewal of licences to Victuallers and beer house keepers. There was only one complaint, which was made by superintendent Hulse to the renewal of the licence of the "Tiger" public house, at Plaxtol.

Superintendent Hulse stated that he had received numerous complaints of applicants house being made available for the sale of beer during the prohibited hours on Sundays, and a case will be brought before the bench during the present month.

Mr. E. Hoar, of Maidstone, contended that there could be no objection to the renewal as no service of summons had been proved upon applicant, and therefore there was no alternative but to grant a licence in accordance with the Act of Parliament.

The bench withheld the renewal for further consideration.
