An ambitious redesign is underway of the White House in The Broadway, Minster, Sheppey

Plans have been revealed for the new-look Whitehouse.

Diners will be able to enjoy views out to sea once renovations of the Indian restaurant in the Broadway, Minster, are complete.

Redevelopment work has already started and the aim is to create a spectacular restaurant and function venue.

The major redesign feature is a new first floor offering views of the sea.

A ground-floor outdoor area with a fire pit for summer dining is also part of the makeover.

The additional space will be filled with “function zones” for groups of up to 10 people, with the two floors being able to cater for 150 diners in total.

The work is set to create more jobs, with full-time restaurant staff increasing from four to eight, and part-time workers from five to 10.

The White House opened as an Indian restaurant in 2008.

Owner Raj Hussain said he hoped the improvements will be completed no later than summer 2016.

He said: “It’s a big project for us.

“Our roots are in Faversham but we ventured on to the Island and took on a building which was nothing and made it into something.

“We hope to expand it into a building which will compete on a national level.”

I am informed that the premises closed as a pub around the early 1970s and for a good few years afterwards was operating as Michael Lamb Antiques but turned into an Indian Restaurant that opened on 4 February 2008.
