I am informed by Nicola Green that the pub closed in 2000. It was a family home for 3 years and then converted into two houses in 2003-04.

From the Kentish Gazette 8 May 1838.

Incendiary Fire at Halling.

On Monday se’nnight, about half-past eleven o’clock, one of the barns on the premises of Mr. Hearnden, adjoining the "Black Boy," at Halling, was observed to be in flames. Assistance was immediately at hand, and every effort made to save the property. The barrels of beer, and a portion of the furniture, were removed into the street; but the flames were not got under until the whole of the premises were destroyed. The night was extremely dark, and the flames illuminated the country for miles round. There is not the least doubt that it was the act of an incendiary, as the flames were first discovered under the thatch, and on the windward side.
