Mentioned in Steve Glover and Michael Rogers book The Old Pubs of Deal and Walmer.

Brewers John Underdown, Cornelius Smith and Stribblehill Norwood, held the lease in 1783 and then by brewer Thomas Oakley in 1763, by 1783 his son Thomas Parker Oakley had taken over.

The premises changed name to the "Fleur de Lis" by 1803 and  later became known as the "Providence Inn."
