New pub The Mast & Rigging will be built at Chatham Waters near Asda store.

A new pub is set to be built near Chatham Docks and will create more than 45 jobs for people in the Towns.

Work is well underway on the new £3 million pub which is being built on land at Chatham Waters waterfront between the Asda store at Gillingham Pier and the docks.

It will be called The Mast & Rigging and is being built by Marston’s Inns and Taverns and will also have a working pizza kitchen catering for up to 150 diners.

The pub will be built at Chatham Waters waterfront.

Set to open early October, the Mast & Rigging will not only have the pizza kitchen it will also offer a grills menu, offering a range of chargrills and prime steaks.

The open plan pizza kitchen will be incorporated into the restaurant dining area offering customers a visual experience as they watch the pizza being made.

Paul Beynon, from Marston’s, said: “We’re extremely excited about the Mast & Rigging, and hope that when it opens, it will build a great reputation locally.

“Offering top quality, value for money pub food and an unrivalled selection of drinks, including cask ales from across the country.”

As previously revealed in the Medway Messenger, The Mast & Rigging at Chatham Waters, next to Asda in Pier Road, will create more than 45 jobs. It has now been confirmed it will open in September. It is being built by Marston’s Inns and Taverns. It will serve pizza, steaks and pub classics, cocktails and cask ale, and will cater for up to 150 diners.

Marston’s owns more than 1,500 pubs but this will be the first in the Towns.

Mast & Rigging opens at Chatham Waters development today.

The Mast & Rigging pub opens its doors to the public for the first time today.

Marston’s is the latest franchise to open in the Chatham Waters development, tucked in between ASDA and Medway UTC.

Mark Pringle came to Medway eight weeks ago after working at another Marston’s pub in Southend.

He told the Medway Messenger: “I’m excited to welcoming all of our new customers through the doors and I’m looking forward to experimenting with our new products.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for me to come to a brand new building and have a completely unique pub.

“The building is unique to the company and a in a unique location and there’s lots of potential for us in the future.

“We have got the family dining area and al fresco dining and of course you will be waited on by exceptional staff and service.”

The pub has created up to 50 new jobs in the area and has the new grill and pizza area which is being added to Marston’s venues across the country.

Despite running 1,500 pubs across the country this is the first Marston’s is opening in the Towns.

Further development at Chatham Waters will be discussed on Wednesday by the planning committee.

The second stage of the £650 million development, which will include 199 one, two and three bedroom flats, is expected to be approved.

A residents’ gym, 710sqm of commercial floorspace an office and parking are all included in the plans.
