Paul Trumper 2019

Former KM photographer Paul Trumper.

Well known in the Medway area not just for his work behind the lens but also as a pub landlord, he died in Eindhoven in Holland where he had lived since 2002. He had endured a lengthy illness.

Originally a boy soldier who signed up at the age of 15, Paul learned his photographic skills in the Army and served widely in the Far East.

After leaving, he worked for Soldier magazine covering the activities of the Army overseas before joining the KM Group, which published the Post, in the late 1960s.

He later went freelance, often specialising in wedding photography, before becoming the landlord of the newly-built Chatham Chest pub in New Road, Chatham.

With his wife, Pat, and three children, he also had a spell at the "Walnut Tree" in Eccles, near Maidstone.

His daughter Michelle described him as a man who "embraced everyone, was never judgmental and just loved people. He was an eternal optimist with a wicked sense of humour".

Paul is survived by his second wife, Wilma, children Andrew, Michelle and Louise, and five grandchildren.
