Good Intent 1887

Above photo, showing the landlady, Maltilda Ann Higgings and clientele outside the licensed premises in 1887.

Reference has been found to a pub called the "Good Intent" and given the address of Borstal. However, I also know of a "Good Intent" at Rochester, and as the photos look different I am inclined to think that they are different.

South Eastern Gazette, 27 November, 1860.

CITY PETTY SESSIONS.

Tuesday. (Before the Mayor, E. R. Coles, F. Furrell, J. Thomas, H. Everest, and G. Lowrey, Esqrs.)

Ann Higgins, keeper of the "Good Intent" beerhouse, Cobden-terrace, Borstal, was charged with having her house open for the sale of beer at illegal hours on Sunday.

Fined 5s, and costs.

The magistrates gave the police directions to look after the other public and beer-houses in that neighbourhood.
