Above photo circa 1956, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Until 1927, the pub was one of about 200 licensed houses, within the tied estate of Frederick Leney's Phoenix Brewery, Wateringbury. After the Whitbread takeover, Leney's signage was gradually replaced: a process which was stepped up in the years following WW2.
