The "Luton Tavern" began trading in the late 1860s, catering for the residents of Cabbage Island, the name given to this area as Luton was at that time separate from Chatham and was very rural. It may have been an old coaching inn originally.

 The pub continued to serve till 2000 when it bacame and operating as a Chinese Restaurant called the Oriental Delight since at least 2008.
