Lower Bridge Street Canterbury
First mentioned as early as December 2017, I am informed that the old underground toilets at the junction of Burgate and Broad Street, Canterbury are all set to open soon as a bar! It'll be called the Privy Bar and be themed as a 1920s cocktail bar. Sadly, not 1920s prices! It is suggested that these underground loos were converted by Canterbury County Council in the 1930s from the cellars of George Beer & Cos Star Brewery which stood on part of this site. The Council certainly bought the site from George Beer and Rigden after the merger and demolished the buildings for parking and road widening. Their Facebook page suggested they would be open in January 2018, but at present, June 2018 I have seen no evidence of this. It did finally manage to open in January 2019.
