Sevenoaks News. Thursday, September 2nd, 1965.
YOUNG LICENSEE AT IDE HILL.
ONE of the youngest licensees in the Sevenoaks district, 27-year-old Mr.
Norman Webster, formerly of "Longwood,” Sevenoaks Road, Borough Green, has taken over his first
house tenancy at the "Crown" public
house at Ide Hill.
Serving behind the bar will not be a new venture for Mr. Webster,
however, as he has been a part-time
barman for the past 15 months at the "Bullfinch," Riverhead, with the
licensee. Mr. Arthur Cooke.
A keen sportsman and gardener, Mr. Webster, a Charlton man was employed
as a foreman sheet metal
worker. "Mine host," in his new pursuit, will be assisted by his wife,
Janet. They have a two-year-old
daughter, Karen.
Mr. A. V. Tyler Retires.
As Mr. Webster moved in on Friday, the "regulars" said good-bye to their
friend over the past 14 years, Mr.
A. V. Tyler, the retiring publican, who is moving to Aylesham, near
Eastbourne.
A Buckinghamshire man, who left the police force when he moved to Ide
Hill, Mr. Tyler and his wife became
well-known in the village. He has served on the parish Church committee,
and Mrs. Tyler was a keen
member of the local Women’s Institute. They have two sons.
We join with their friends in wishing Mr. Webster every success in his
new position, and Mr. Tyler happiness
in his well-deserved retirement.
Photos kindly sent by Norman Webster.
