Not sure when this opened as yet but it was originally known as the "Red Lion" and closed around 1800. The building is now known as Crown House.

1869.

Stephen May to William Alexander Mackinnon Firstly, butcher's Secondly, All that messuage or dwelling called by the name or sign of the "Red Lion” and afterwards of the "Crown” but then and for a long time past converted into a private dwelling house with the stable yard buildings heriditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate lying or being at or near the square in the Town of Elham abutting to the said square towards the west and to the lane or highway there called Ducks Hill towards the south formerly in the tenure or occupation of Elizabeth Nicholl spinster her assigns or undertenants and then in the occupation of the said Stephen May and Susannah Hogben or one of them or one of their undertenants.

From parliamentary papers 1850-1908 Vol 24 p.2, under Phillpott's Charity.

It says it was held under a lease granted 18th April 1810 to John Fordham, Edward Allen / Fordham and George Eagles Marsham brewers and assignees of A Constable for a term of 57 years .......residue of a term agreed to having been granted to the said A Constable in pursuance of an order of Chancery - the said A Constable having built the said public house.

This is the result of the sale of the Lewisham Brewery which is the business - but may be not the buildings - which became the Whitbread bottling site now Tesco.

Kindly sent from Mary Mills.
