The Fat Walrus in New Cross applies to extend opening hours.
'Temporarily closed’ New Cross pub applies to extend its opening
hours.
A pub in New Cross has applied to extend its opening hours, despite
currently being listed as “temporarily closed” on Google.
Gibeon Restaurants Limited has submitted a request to Lewisham
Council to vary its premises licence at The Fat Walrus, located on
Lewisham Way.
If approved, this would see the pub serving alcohol and playing live
and recorded music until 1.30am from Sunday to Thursday and until
2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The application also seeks permission to serve late-night
refreshments until 1.30am from Monday to Thursday, until 2.30am on
Fridays, until 2.30am on Saturdays, and until 1.30am on Sundays.
Currently, The Fat Walrus is listed as “temporarily closed” on
Google, with no posts on its Facebook or Instagram pages since early
2024.
The News Shopper also attempted to call the phone number associated
with the pub, but the call did not connect.
The pub's opening hours would also be extended, with the application
proposing an 11am to 2am opening from Monday to Thursday, 11am to
3am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12pm to 2am on Sundays.
The application also details plans to update the pub's premises
plan, removing the conservatory and including fire safety and CCTV
equipment.
The pub's forecourt and rear beer garden would only be accessible
during set hours, from 12pm to 11pm from Sunday to Thursday, and
from 12pm to 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The application notice can be viewed at Lewisham Council's Safer
Communities Service, 9 Holbeach Road, London, SE6 4TW, by
appointment between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, or online at
www.lewisham.gov.uk.
