High Street

Strood

This was mentioned in a book called the "History of Strood" by Henry Smetham, published 1899.

It is thought this house was known at one time as the "Ferry House," before changing name to the "Red Lion and Star," and that the river, or creek, flowed up nearly to its doors. It is possible that from the creek at the rear (South) of the High Street, such mode of passage may have been customary.
