King's Head

Latest 1742

(Name to)

High Street

Greenhithe

The "King's Head" can be traced back to 1661 but changed name to the "White Hart" in 1742.

From a leaflet date unknown, 'GREENHITHE VILLAGE: A Pictorial Guide to the Past and the Present.'

In a section regarding the White Hart it says;

"Previously named 'The King's Head' it is reputed that in 1661 Isaac Jacob and Casimirus Kargagi were apprehended here after having brutally murdered their master, a Prince of Transylvania."

(Kindly researched by Shaun Gardiner.)

 From an essay date unknown. 'Swanscombe Parish (Including Greenhithe) by C R Bull, BA (Hons), ALA'

The quote I found in here says;

"In 1661 two Hungarians were arrested at The White Hart (then called The Kings Head) having murdered Albertus, a Transylvanian Prince at Gad's Hill. Both were later hanged."
