The Larkfield Priory Hotel, was originally a manor house located on the site from the 18th century on what was known as Larkfield farm. In the 19th century it was the home of the Reverend William Lewis Wigan and his family. Wigan died in 1876 and the family continued to live at the residence. In 1892, a fire damaged the building and it had to be restored. It was eventually extended and became a hotel. The What Pub website suggests this has also been known as "Hamlet's Hotel", "Larkfield Hotel" and the "Bull" but it doesn't look like the "Bull Inn" also addressed on the London Road to me. Local knowledge required please. I am informed that it has also been known as the "Hunting Lodge" at one time as well. Further information from David Homewood says the following:- The “Hunting Lodge” was in its day quite a nice place and had a small venue where the likes of radio One DJ’s Tony Blackburn – Peter Powell – would do turns on the decs playing good old vinyl they were good days – in the main bar they would have a guy who played the piano on a Saturday whilst next door instead of disco it was a country and western venue.
