2 Station Road Longfield
Originally called the "Longfield Tavern," but have no information as to what dates is functioned under this name. Now called the "Railway Tavern." I have reference to a Mr. W Gray as licensee as early as 1866. The railway opened here in 1872, so obviously the name changed when the railway was being built, although William Gray was said to be here as late as 1871. My guess is was known by both names at the time. On the 1864-1867 map, looking in the same area, there is no station (which I understand was built in 1872) and no "Railway Tavern" either - no pub at all. There is no reference to Longfield Court but there is a Court Lodge - clearly a large building.
