PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1881-

Sir Charles Napier

Latest 1883

Old King Street

Deptford

Only the one instance of this found to date, such that it was licensed in 1881, but closed for a couple of years and I am not yet sure whether this continued beyond 1883.

I have also found reference to a "Napier" addressed at Douglas Street. Local knowledge required as to whether these two could be the same.

Kentish Independent, Saturday 25 August 1883.

Mr. William Hughes applied on behalf of Mr. Henry Ridley Latimer, of the "Sir Charles Napier," Old King Street, Deptford, for an inspection of his house, which had been re-licensed last year on an undertaking that certain repairs would be carried out. These had been partly effected, but owing to the illness and death of the applicant's wife, and the severe illness of Mr. Latimer himself, he had to ask for some further indulgence. Owing to the distractions produced by his domestic trials, the application had not open the house for business for nearly 2 years.

The bench adjourned the application.
