Mason's Hill Bromley
Reference has been made to this pub situated at Mason's Hill in 1856 and run by an Alfred Davies. It was said to be facing north along Masons Hill towards Bromley, next to W. F. Chattell - Veterinary Surgeon. Site is next to Bristol Street Motors, near the corner of Prospect Place.
On 1st February 1868 the body of Jane Jackson was found in the cottage well. Jane had been living at the "Three Horseshoes" pub opposite but had got into dispute about the rent. The pub landlord and a friend were charged with her murder but were acquitted. Her death remains a mystery. Mr Davis who ran the beer-shop, moved the name and the sign to the north side of Masons Hill near Prospect Place. (Now the Waitrose site and opposite the Hospital and Cromwell Avenue).
