The census of 1841 mentions a pub named the "Bear and Hole" situated in the parish of Swingfield and the licensee is named William Maxted who is Richard Maxted's father. By 1847 Richard was named as the licensee of the "Three Bells." This makes me wonder whether the "Three Bells" was previously known as the "Bear and Hole."
