Kentish Weekly Post or Canterbury News-Letter. 3 May 1755.

“COCKING at NEW ROMNEY,

At the Golden Bacchus, on Saturday the 10th Instant, The Gentlemen of the City of Canterbury shew and weigh the Gentlemen of the Wild of Kent Twenty-one Cocks; fight in Silver the Monday and Tuesday following, for five Guineas a Battle, and ten Guineas the main or odd Battle. — A close Pit.

N.B. A Twelve-penny Ordinary the Days of Fighting, on the Table at One o’Clock.

 

From the Kentish Gazette, 15 March 1777.

To be sold by Auction, at the sign of the "Golden Bacchus," in New Romney, on Saturday, 29th of March instant, between the hours of three and five o'clock in the afternoon, (unless disposed off by private contract, of which timely notice will be given.)

All that new erected Messuage or Tenement, the Ground Floor consisting of two good Parlours, a small Hall, a convenient Kitchen, and Warehouse; together with a Stable, Foddering Lodge, and Garden, to the same Messuage adjoining; situated within the Town and Port of New Romney, and now in the occupation of Mr. James Wightwick.
