Johnson's Northgate Brewery 1910

Above image circa 1910, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe.

I believe this was the tap room to Johnson's Brewery situated in Northgate, but it is unknown the years it was serving due to changes and buy-outs.

Johnson's Northgate Brewery, part of which still stands, was opposite the infantry barracks. It was bought in 1898 and changed its name to the Canterbury Brewery. Although the Canterbury Brewery may have supplied draught beer to the army messes, it dealt mainly in bottled and export beers. It was taken over and closed by Fremlin's in 1923. It supplied only one pub, to date unknown which one and also supplied a couple of off-licenses.

No real concrete info on whether they had a tap room but one thing's for sure. All the remaining buildings were knocked flat in the summer of 2020 and will be replaced by part of the Kingsmead Riverside Development.
