PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1851-

Ten Bells

Latest 1851+

Bearsted

Not sure if this was an error of name, but the following reference is to a pub called the "Ten Bells" in Bearsted, and at present I only know of one called the "Six Bells," in this village.

South Eastern Gazette, Tuesday 10 June 1851.

Bearsted Petty Sessions.

Thomas Hollands and John Thorpe were severely charged by police-constable Merrony, with assaulting him on the same evening. Defendant, with others, came out of the "Ten Bells" public house. Hollands, with an oath, said "There is the policeman," and caught hold of his collar on one side and Thorpe on the other, and dragged him down the street for some distance. Holland, having before assaulted the policeman in a similar manner was fined 30s. and 11s. costs; Thorpe fined 15s. and 11. costs.
