Hog Lane & East Lane Greenwich
Jacqueline Davies kindly writes to me who says she is interested in 17th century Greenwich and has been doing research from sources including a survey of East Greenwich Manor in a document titled "A survey of the Kings Lordship or Manor of East Greenwich in the County of Kent made by Samuel Travers 1695-97." She kindly sends me the following information:- Mat Fletcher next door to Widow Bates property called the White Bear on Hog Lane and East Lane. Hog Lane was the section of Old Woolwich Road to the East of Eastney (behind the Alms Houses – shown on 1832 map by Morris – no reference to pubs on 1832 map) and could be the site of "Star and Garter" shown on 1832 Weller map and current Google map. Hog Lane was redesigned around about 1800.
