After closing its doors in December 2018 the pub was sold by a PubCo (Enterprise) and was eventually bought by a property speculator (Shardlake) who expended no effort, whatsoever, in trying to get the pub trading again, seeming to prefer the idea of bulldozing the pub and building on the site. However, this scheme met with much local opposition when the application went to CCC for approval and many impassioned objections were lodged.

The new owner (Matthew, surname as yet unknown) decided to ditch the "Blean Tavern" name, in favour of a nod to the past and so, upon re-opening, it was called the "Hare."

Matthew's plans are based on providing Blean with a good community hub, offering tasty, home-cooked food and locally-brewed ales, at the sort of prices that customers can afford.
