Smarden
Built around 1790, by 1841 this pub was known as the "Flying Horse." It is suggested the name changing due to the race-course that was housed opposite the pub. At present I have no information regarding this establishment under this guise but it is suggested that it was given this name because of the pigs and donkeys that were brought to Smarden for grazing. Smarden actually meaning “Fat Pasture”.
