South Eastern Gazette, Tuesday 23 August 1859.

Mary Short was charged with having seriously injured Robert Moon, a private in the Royal Marines, by cutting his head open with a quart pot, at the "Irish Harp" public house, Chatham.

Prosecutor whose head was bandaged and who appeared to have been much injured, said he was in the "Irish Harp," drinking with the prisoner at the time.

In reply to the magistrates, prosecuted denied that he had given the prisoner any provocation whatsoever for such a savage assault.

Find £5, inclusive of costs, and in default of payment committed for 6-weeks.
