3-4 Marine Gardens Margate
Originally the "Royal Albion Hotel, then in the 1980s it changed to the "Achilles Heel" till 1999, when it then changed name again to the "Bar Barcelona" and since 2008 to "Purple." Michael Mirams says it's also been known as these names, but order lost in time. The "Black Cat" (2017) , before that "Purple" (2008), before that "Purple Aubergine," "Pinar Mediterranean," "Mezze Bar & Restaurant" and "Bar Barcelona." After some refurbishments and probably a delay due to the covid restrictions in 2020, it was open again by November 2021, and had changed colour to vivid pink with the new name of "Love." Under the current name of "Love" it is described as a café bar and arts & music venue, the present Love was only opened in October this year by Libertines front man Carl Barat, having been granted a licence in June 2021 – apparently, no real ale available though (it’s such a great pity, but it’s Chrome Font City). The building which houses Love was built in the 1850’s as two private houses, one of which served as the local Conservative Party offices c.1909. Personally speaking, I can't see it lasting long as a public house with that name. Sounds more like a nightclub name to me and will probably last till the first police raid if it attracts that ilk of person, but I am sure they will have something in place to deter the unwanted. At least I hope they do. It's not my cup of tea though.
