Sadness as Lucky Chip in Church Street, Folkestone, to close this weekend.
A popular town centre dive bar known for its burgers, beers and
late-night atmosphere is set to close.
Lucky Chip, in Church Street, Folkestone, will shut its doors this
weekend after more than four years of trading.
The venue, which took over the former Bacchus bar site, has built up
a loyal following since opening in 2021.
It was launched by Australian restaurateur Ben Denner, who also runs
two Lucky Chip sites in London.
He transformed the unit into an American-inspired dive bar, serving
up burgers, sides such as mac and cheese, and a wide choice of beers
and cocktails.
Announcing the closure in a statement on Instagram, the team said:
“Lucky Chip has been more than just burgers and beers – it's been
friends made, laughs shared, and memories we'll never forget.
The venue, which took over the former Bacchus bar site, opened in 2021.
“This weekend marks the end of this chapter, and we'd love to see
you one more time before we close our doors as Lucky Chip (for now).
“We will be celebrating our last weekend with The Folkestone Beer
Festival and Pressure Drop Brewing on the old ones and twos.
“Let's eat, drink, and celebrate the good times we've had. DJs,
beer, burgers, cocktails and a party to boot!
“From the bottom of our hearts – thank you for being part of the
Lucky Chip family.”
The popular bar holds a 4.2 rating on TripAdvisor.
The announcement has prompted a wave of sadness from customers
online.
One person wrote: “It’s one of our favourites when we are in
Folkestone.
“Good luck with whatever you do.”
Another added: “Gutted. I’m going to miss the best Folkestone dive
bar. Incredible beers and burgers.”
Lucky Chip will open for the final time this Friday, Saturday and
Sunday.
KentOnline reporter Rhys Griffiths reviewed the site in 2022 and
described the signature cheeseburger as “phenomenally good”.
He added at the time: “In this competitive dining landscape, it
takes something special to really stand out from the crowd.
“And the burgers at Lucky Chip are very special indeed.”
Bosses at the site were contacted for a comment. |
