Above photo, circa 1955, showing that was the forerunner to the "Player Club," kindly sent by Peter Moynihan.

I am informed that this was the predecessor to the "Player Club" but at present don't think it was the same building, but was certainly in the same area being addresses as the Leas at Minster. Again, being a club this would have only been open to members and guests.

Peter Moynihan tells me the following:- Minsterville was the name of the original house which was converted into a Club in 1948, it has been much-modified and added to over the years. Renamed the "Player Club," then "Playa Club" (presumably when holidays in Spain became popular), it has been a free house for many years now.

Further information tells me that the house 'Minsterville' dates from before 1904 when the Whitstabvle Times reported that Mrs. Tillard was advertising for a cook/general servant at £18 a year. Also the Folkestone Herald said the house was connected to the telephone system in 1930. Mrs M. Dorrien would answer if you dialled Minster 20.
