Previously known as the "Sir Jeffrey Amherst." Jeffery Amherst, born in Sevenoaks, was the commander-in-chief of British forces in North America during the Seven Years' War, which saw France surrender Canada to the British. In a later battle he wanted to wipe out the Native Americans by using blankets impregnated with Smallpox. The "Crown Point Inn", previously home of the independent Sevenoaks Brewery, was built in a setting which resembled the scene of Sir Jeffrey Amherst's great Canadian victory, which is how it came by its name. It is said the building was originally a hunting lodge. The independent brewery and home-brew house was founded June 1981 by Gordon Emery, using a 4-barrel kit, but sadly closed in 1986 due to the licensee's retirement. The pub was later sold to Whitbread. Seems this one has again changed name, this time simply to the "Amherst Inn."
