Lamberhurst

Above photo, circa 1900, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe.

Rory Kehoe says the following:- Mr. Arthur Hayward. I think Mr. Hayward was a beer, cyder and tobacco retailer. I'm pretty certain that the photo shows Mr. Hayward with his wife and daughter and that the brewery tap was an off licence, selling draught beer, rather than a pub/beer house.

Smith's Lamberhurst Brewery ceased trading in 1921 and their 54 pub tied estate was sold to the Dartford Brewery. The brewery was bought by Hugh Percival Dungey Esq and renamed as Lamberhurst Brewery Co Ltd. This was acquired by Hoare & Co in 1926 and shut down in 1935.
