Above photo circa 1974.

Nothing known about this at present other than it was kindly sent to me from Peter Chamberlain who says the following:- "In cataloguing the thousands of slides in the Sandgate Society Archive, we found the attached - The Oak Inn at No 93 Sandgate High Street.

The slide was taken in 1974 (+/-) after Nos. 89 and 92 were demolished for flats. No mention found in Tales from the Tap Room or any other books in the Archive including street and telephone directories.

It could well be that this was a business that quickly failed - being at the non-fashionable end of the High Street."

The awning on the left of the building says "Oak Cellar Restaurant," so I guess this was more of a restaurant than a public house, but with the name of Inn, I wonder whether it also doubles as a guest house. Either way, you may have needed to have a meal here or be a guest to get a drink at this one.

Further information says:- One of the Sandgate members had her 21st birthday party at the Oak in 1973. From what she remembers (it was her 21st remember) it was more of a restaurant with a bar than a bar with a restaurant.
