Only one instance of this found to date and evidently was situated on the Sandling Road opposite the barracks.

Southeastern Gazette, 6 September 1853.

The Chairman said complaint had also been made to them of some gross misconduct which had occurred in the "York Hotel," Sandling-road (opposite the Barracks).

Mr. Leader, to whom the license was that day transferred, said the complaint arose through some females, who were strangers to him, taking lodgings at his house for a few days and standing at the window and beckoning to the soldiers opposite, which had been complained of by Col. Griffiths, the commandant. Immediately on his becoming acquainted with their conduct he gave them notice to quit, and they left the house. He extremely regretted that it had occurred, and had given Col. Griffiths an explanation of it, with which he was satisfied.
